Fig & Date Cake

     I tried this cake today for Vday special and it came out decent. Of course, the recipe is not mine and I found it here: http://www.freshinthekitchen.co.nz/recipes_show.asp?id=9

I won't rewrite the recipe but just note the changes I made. I left out lemon zest, replaced rice bran oil with olive oil (one for baking), and served it with hot chocolate fudge.

I think the cake will be good with whipped cream too. I am not a big fan of bread or cake with dates or figs, Sid is. So, he liked this cake (or so he says) better than I did. I am not sure if I will make it again but I posted it here for those of you who are into fruit breads or cakes...

Happy navaratri everyone! I am sure most of our readers need no introduction to this festival but for all others,  navaratri ( "nava" means 9, "ratri" means night ) is a Hindu festival that celebrates the 9 forms of Shakti  - the female divine force in Hinduism. While the festival is celebrated all over India, each region and each community has it's own traditions. More Mocktails ....

Niti and I talked about my Citrus Fizz  this morning; she mentioned how it is a big hit in her friends circle and I have to agree - if I had to name one recipe that I have made the most number of times, this drink wins hands down! It is a good combination of flavors and I have managed to make a lot of twists and variations to this recipe. This drink was inspired by a cocktail that one of our friends served at my grad school farewell party - thanks Noor ! All that said, I have been wanting to experiment on some new flavors! A few new drinks that I have made in the recent past are watermelon-limeade and pom-cran-soda  (will post the recipes soon!). Vegetarian Thai Red Curry

Looks like I am on a curry spree! One of my favorite cuisines on this planet, even talking about it makes my mouth water...slurp! I suddenly thought about Thai food today and luckily I had all the basic ingredients in my pantry so tonight's dinner was the Thai Red Curry! Aside, I have always been wary of using others' recipes and have had many discussions with my co-blogger and other close friends about copyright and related topics. While we have come across people who steal pictures from the original recipe and claim it as their own (yes, unfortunately such creeps do exist!), I have also seen bloggers who take copyright to a whole new level by picking open fights on blogs and "walls" (we definitely try to stay away from this kind!).I came across a useful  article   today on foodblogforum that talks about recipe-attribution-etiquettes, I thought it might be worth sharing here.
